In honor of Father’s Day, KMIR sought to find out how locals saw their own dad. And found that despite the heat, dad’s are pretty cool.
We know more money is spent on Mother’s Day, $19 billion than Father’s Day, $12 billion. But for those out and about for record heat Sunday, every moment they spent with their dad was priceless.
Dads have a special place in our hearts. And when given three words to describe their dads, locals had a tough time choosing.
"Well there’s so many," says Jordyn Blair. "But I guess it’s gonna be amazing, fabulous and just straight up, great loving guy."
Her older brother Jeremy had a quicker answer, "Old…Hilarious and trying to be cool."
"He’s loving, generous and faithful," offered Mary Gonzalez.
"Outgoing, motivated and funny," said Hunter Olivier
"Helpful, friendly and awesome," chose young Ethan Calhoun.
"Best dad ever," said Lauren Olivier.
Well, according to others celebrating Father’s Day on Sunday, Lauren’s dad has some competition.
"Awesome, perfect and helpful," Connor Calhoun knew immediately what he wanted to say about his dad.
And when asked what kind of tips their dad offered them that they’d never forget, the answers ranged form faith to function.
"He has shown us truly what it is to be devoted to God," said Gonzalez. "He’s just been the rock of our family."
"Connor, what’s something your dad taught you that you’ll never forget?" The young man was asked, "Never leave your shoe untied," was his prompt response.
"Be nice to everybody you meet" and "Persistence and perseverance will get you anything you want in life" were quips Jose Montoya offered his sons Vincent and Joe.
And for the fathers we talked to, this day meant celebrating more than just the title of dad.
"Father’s Day is the day you celebrate your life," said Jose Montoya.
"It’s a celebrating the birth of children," said Glenn Olivier as he choked back emotion. "And seeing them go out and be successful and accomplishing goals that they have."
And young Jordyn Blair had a message for all the dads: "I just want to say happy fathers day to all the fathers out there."
We couldn’t say it better ourselves. In honor of all the wonderful dad’s out there. Thank you for all you do.
