Palm Desert, CA
A three-vehicle freeway crash in Palm Desert was triggered when a California Highway Patrol officer swerved to avoid a car entering his lane, the CHP reported today.
The crash occurred at 3:48 p.m. Thursday on eastbound Interstate 10, east of Monterey Avenue, said CHP Officer Mike Radford.
As the officer was merging from the slow lane into the middle lane, the driver of a 2014 Kia Soul began merging into the same lane from the left, forcing him to swerve right to avoid crashing into the Kia, Radford said.
However, as the officer swerved to the right, his patrol car rear-ended a 2000 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV in the slow lane, which in turn crashed into the front of the Kia, Radford said.
The Mitsubishi driver complained of pain, while the officer and Kia driver were uninjured, Radford said. None of the drivers were transported to a hospital.
