An animal rescue group helped to save a dog that was buried alive on a beach.

An animal rescue group rushed to help save a dog that someone had buried alive on a Hawaii beach.

A dog was buried alive on a Hawaii beach.

Officials with PAWS of Hawaii named the dog Leialoha. “This precious girl is incredibly swollen, sunburned and missing 90 percent of her fur,” PAWS officials said in a statement on Facebook.

Leialoha was taken to Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services for treatment.

She also had cuts on her front paws. “The man who buried her, we were led to believe, had started to cut her,” Ku’ulei Durand, the executive director of PAWS of Hawaii, told KITV.

Officials with PAWS of Hawaii said Leialoha is making progress.

“Our beautiful Leialoha was given her first bath today, poor girl was bleeding from every inch of her body,” they said.

Leialoha now lives with a foster family.
