Out of 170,000, just 85 votes separated the two candidates, making this the closest race for State Assembly in over 40 years. But now, newly sworn in Assemblymember Greg Wallis is ready to take on Sacramento.
The race was very close following the days after the November 8th election. The final count revealed Holstege had 84,667 votes while Wallis led with 84,752.
The Board of Supervisors Tuesday signed off on the final vote canvass from the Nov. 8 election submitted by Riverside County Registrar of Voters Rebecca Spencer, affirming the results, though a few supervisors pointed to problems that need to be addressed going forward.
Some of those results include the Palm Springs and Coachella mayoral races, short term vacation rentals in La Quinta and what could be big adjustments to new districts in Palm Desert.
Republican Congressman Ken Calvert is projected to win reelection to the 41st District in Riverside County Tuesday after overtaking Democrat challenger Will Rollins by more than 5,000 votes.
The Registrar says they are seeing a similar turnout compared to past elections. While some local races have been called, there are still plenty of ballots left to be processed.
The Democrats are feeling positive today as they fared well in last night’s election. Since the polls closed, the three key local elections with Dr. Ruiz, Holstege and Rollins have all been leaning blue.
