The 29th Palm Springs International Shortfest is in full swing. Out of thousands of entries, only 300 films made the cut to join the competitive award-qualifying festival. That still can be quite daunting when you’re trying to choose which film to see.

“Heritage Day” from writer-director Lara Everly is about a young girl named Evie who decides to dress up like her estranged grandmother, a Holocaust survivor, on Heritage Day at school.

Filipino-American actress Rivkah Reyes wrote and starred in the short film “Gianna” blending horror and cult film genres. Reyes plays the dual role of Gina and her inner demon Gianna. I spent some time with Reyes to talk about the making of the film, its horror roots, and its LGBTQ+ tone.
