Salvation Army Opens New Youth Center and Gymnasium

Cathedral City, CA With record-breaking heat coming through the valley, the Salvation Army just opened a new gymnasium and youth center, giving kids a place to escape the heat. The new gym, located at 30-400 Landau Blvd. in Cathedral City, hosted a grand opening on Thursday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Over the summer, the Dick and Beverly Davis Youth Center and Gymnasium, gives kids a place to cool off and have fun. The center will remain open throughout the year to participate in The Salvation Army’s ongoing after-school programs. These programs include tutoring, athletics, music and arts and leadership development. In the past, The Salvation Army has provided 93,000 hours of tutoring, and the new center will help grow that extensively. "This program means the world to us, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to finish it right as children are getting out of school for the summer," Captain Sean Kelsey said, administrator and pastor of The Salvation Army in Cathedral City. With new beginnings come bittersweet endings. The Dick and Beverly Davis Youth Center and Gymnasium finished just in time as Captains Sean and Bonita Kelsey are being transferred to The Salvation Army in San Diego East County. "We are thrilled to have been able to spend our five years here in Cathedral City working on this center, and look forward to see what come next for The Salvation Army Dick and Beverly Davis Center," Captain Kelsey said. For more information about the center, you can contact The Salvation Army at (760) 324-2275
