Major Construction Projects Underway in Indio

Indio, CA

The city of Indio is carrying out major construction projects and city officials say the work comes after years of planning.

"Many of these projects have been going on and have been planned for a very long time. The Jefferson interchange project has been in place for several years now and even Madison street has been planned for almost a decade," said PJ Gagajena, spokesman for the city of Indio.

Construction will affect several key routes. The work on surface streets began today on Dr.Carreon Blvd.
between Monroe Street and Arabia Street.

"The street resurfacing project that’s happening this week is to patch up a lot of the cracks that are happening in our roadways and fill up any pot holes that could cause safety issues to the vehicular traffic along that corridor," said Gagajena.

Other projects include work on Madison Street near the canal.

"That will again allow easier access for vehicular traffic flow between the city of Indio and the city of La Quinta."

Work on the Jefferson Street interchange is also underway.

"The Jefferson interchange project is a major part of the city’s project and the regional project for the Coachella Valley to ensure that there is more access to and from the freeway on the ten to the general public into and out of the city," said Gagajena.

Drivers will still be able to access homes and businesses in the affected areas.

"We hope that they can remain patient with us during this time. I know that it is a bit of an inconvenience," Gagajena said.
