Authorities released the name of a woman who died in a weekend apartment fire in Indio that displaced about a half-dozen people.
Diane Pierce, 33, of Indio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, which was reported at 9:34 a.m. Saturday at the Mountain View Cottages, 46299 Arabia St.
Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department said two dozen firefighters needed about 90 minutes to knock down the flames.
The American Red Cross assisted six apartment occupants displaced by the blaze, she said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
