Three people were rescued Thursday from a vehicle that became swamped by flood water in Cabazon.
The vehicle got stuck in around 9:10 a.m. at Elm Street and Adele Avenue, Riverside County Fire Department PIO April Newman said. She said water had risen to the bottom of the wheel well on the vehicle, and it was flowing at about 10 mph.
Fire crews summoned a helicopter for a hoist rescue, and while waiting for it to arrive, all three people inside the vehicle managed to wade to an island in the flowing river of floodwater. All three were rescued by the helicopter crew by 11:20 a.m., Newman said.
Two of the people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, but the third was evaluated at the scene and declined further treatment.
