A Maine photographer’s photo of a squirrel and a bald eagle in an epic staring contest has gone viral.
As of Thursday, Roger Stevens Jr.’s photo had been shared more than 10,000 times.
The photo, taken Monday, shows a gray squirrel and the eagle in a staring match atop a tree in Lincoln, Maine.
Lincoln is about an hour north of Bangor.
“I couldn’t have made this up!” Stevens wrote in the post. “Behind the Rite Aide Store in Downtown Lincoln, Maine!”
Stevens took several more photos, showing the eagle attempting to catch the squirrel. The squirrel managed to avoid becoming lunch by jumping into a hole in the tree.
