Deputies: Big Rig Pileup Caused By Drunk Truck Driver

A 55-year-old truck driver suspected of having been under the influence when he plowed into a big rig stopped at an intersection in Coachella is expected to be charged soon.

Jose Hernandez Gonzalez of Olive Hurst, California, is expected to be charged as he recovers from a possible head injury caused by the collision, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Coachella police responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision at 10:20 p.m. Thursday on Highway 86 near Avenue 52, deputies said. On scene, they found one semi-truck collided into the rear of another big rig.

Police believe Gonzalez was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into the stationary truck. The 55-year-old was taken to the hospital with possible injuries and is expected to be charged, deputies said. No other injuries were reported.
