A fisherman found and rescued a dog that was trapped in a cage in the water.
Bryant Fritz found the puppy in freezing water in Kaufman Lake in Champaign, Illinois, WCIA-TV reported Saturday.
He took her to get help with the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
“The team has been busy taking care of her today,” Dr. Jenica Harashak, a specialist in emergency and critical care, said Sunday. “She got a bath and her wounds are being treated.”
The TV station also reported Saturday that Fritz’s dog recently died, and he hoped to be able to adopt the puppy after county animal control officials take custody of her.
Harashak said the dog is “a sweetheart and has been receiving lots of love and attention.”
