BANNING (CNS) – A man suspected of fatally shooting a 58-year-old woman in her Anza home was behind bars Monday.

Trent Allen Lightfoot, 50, of Anza was arrested and booked Sunday into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of murder. Bail information was not immediately available.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Espinoza, patrol deputies were sent about 3 a.m. Sunday to the 56000 block of Mitchell Road, just north of Highway 371, to investigate reports of a woman suffering a gunshot wound and discovered Cherie Mae Lanzisera in her home, mortally wounded. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Lightfoot was at the property and was questioned by Central Homicide Unit detectives, who took him into custody without incident, according to the sergeant.

There was no word on what transpired at the residence, or a possible motive for the alleged attack, nor did investigators specify the relationship, if any, between the suspect and victim.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
