A small airplane crashed Friday northwest of Banning Municipal Airport, killing both people aboard.
The plane crashed about 9:35 a.m. at Hathaway and Ramsey streets in a field near the airport, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Both people on the plane died at the scene, the fire department reported. Their names were withheld, pending notification of relatives.
The crash will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
