California es el primer estado en superar los 5 millones de casos por COVID-19
California se convierte en el primer estado en registrar más de 5 millones de infecciones por coronavirus, de acuerdo al reporte estatal, que se retrasó debido al fin de semana festivo de navidad.
El sombrío hito, según lo informado por el Departamento de Salud Pública de California, no fue del todo inesperado en un estado con 40 millones de residentes preparados para un aumento de nuevas infecciones en medio de fiestas navideñas y reuniones familiares forzadas a entrar en el interior por una serie de tormentas invernales.
El número de casos de California está por delante de otros estados grandes. Texas tenía más de 4.4 millones y Florida superó los 3.9 millones hasta el domingo.
Hasta el momento el estado ha registrado más de 75,500 muertes relacionadas con COVID-19, aunque California ha tenido mejor respuesta a comparación de muchos otros estados que están lidiando con un aumento de coronavirus, principalmente las áreas del Medio Oeste y el Noreste experimentan el mayor aumento en los casos y hospitalizaciones en medio de temperaturas gélidas que han mantenido a las personas en el interior.
Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades de EE. UU., (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés) enumeran a California como un lugar con una transmisión “alta” del virus, junto con casi cualquier otro lugar del país. Pero en la última semana, California promedió 16.4 casos nuevos por cada 100,000 personas, menos de un tercio de la tasa nacional.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
