Sistema de Salud de UCSD acuerda pago millonario para resolver acusaciones del Departamento de Justicia
El Departamento de Justicia informó este martes que el Sistema de Salud de la Universidad de California en San Diego ha acordado el pago de casi 3 millones de dólares para resolver las acusaciones acerca de las pruebas genéticas realizadas durante cuatro años y que no eran necesarias, las cuales fueron reembolsadas por Medicare.
El acuerdo no contiene una determinación de responsabilidad y emana de las acusaciones de que el Sistema de Salud de UCSD ordenó y presentó referencias para exámenes médicos innecesarios entre diciembre de 2015 y octubre de 2019, en una clara violación de la Ley de Falsos Reclamos.

Las pruebas fueron realizadas por los laboratorios CQuentia Arkansas Labs, CQuentia NGS y Total Diagnostic II. Con estas pruebas se dio pie al falso reclamo de pagos a Medicare, de acuerdo con el Departamento de Justicia.
En un comunicado, el Sistema de Salud de UCSD informó que según el acuerdo firmado, los doctores afiliados a UCSD ordenaban pruebas de una compañía, para más tarde hacer falsas reclamaciones sobre esos exámenes.

“Cuando el Sistema de Salud de la Universidad de California en San Diego supo que el Departamento de Justicia tenía preguntas sobre uno de nuestros proveedores tecnológicos, cooperamos inmediata y completamente para resolver el asunto. Este acuerdo trae una pronta resolución a esta situación, lo que nos permite seguir enfocándonos en brindar un excelente cuidado a nuestros pacientes”, se podía leer en la misiva.
Brian Boynton, quien es el asistente del fiscal de la División Civil del Departamento de Justicia, dijo que los hospitales son los guardianes del servicio médico y se espera que se aseguren que todos los servicios vayan en esa dirección, incluyendo las pruebas genéticas, cuando sean requeridas medicamente.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
