Therapy Dog Brings Smiles and Joy to Michigan Elementary School

At Hilbert Elementary in Redford, Michigan, Moon the therapy dog has become a beloved presence, offering stress relief and joy to both students and staff. The five-year-old dog’s weekly visits have become the highlight of many students’ days, with his owner noting how Moon eagerly anticipates his time at the school. Introduced to the school district two years ago, therapy dogs have had a positive impact, improving school culture and climate. This success prompted the district to expand its program by adding six more dogs. Studies have shown that dogs help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and the presence of Moon and his canine colleagues has boosted student engagement and attendance. Moon’s mission is simple: to bring happiness to everyone he meets. His owner explains that Moon believes everyone is on earth to pet him, and he’s more than happy to oblige, providing much-needed comfort for students who may be struggling.
