Weekend Weather: Cooler Temperatures and Possible Showers in the Coachella Valley

Weekend Weather Update: Cooler Temperatures and Chance of Showers in the Coachella Valley Happy Friday, everyone! As we kick off the weekend, we're taking a live look at the Walter Clark I-11 Cam in Rancho Mirage. It's a beautiful evening with clear skies and a few stars shining brightly. Traffic is steady along Highway 111, and it looks like many of us are heading out for dinner or other evening plans. Whether you're attending the Firebirds game or just taking the scenic route, the atmosphere is calm and pleasant. Looking ahead, we’re officially less than a week away from Thanksgiving! If you haven't already, now is the time to start checking off those grocery lists and prepping for the holiday. With just 29 days left until the winter solstice and 33 days until Christmas, the holiday season is in full swing. Weather Conditions Across the Valley Currently, the temperature in Yucca Valley is 58°F, 67°F in Indio, and 68°F in Banning. Overnight temperatures will dip into the 40s across the low and high desert, so be prepared for a cool night. Interestingly, the night will be a bit warmer compared to yesterday when we experienced temperatures in the 30s, especially on the southeast end of the Valley. Northern California Weather System An enhanced satellite image shows a storm system off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, slowly making its way closer to Southern California. This system is bringing significant rainfall to northern California, with some areas already reporting up to 14 inches of rain, leading to widespread flooding issues due to the heavy moisture in a short time. As we zoom in on the radar, we can see the band of moisture stretching from San Jose up to Sacramento, with snow falling in the Sierra Nevada mountains. What to Expect in the Desert For us here in Southern California, the North American weather model indicates that we may see some rain starting on Saturday morning, just north of Los Angeles. By the evening, light showers may reach the San Bernardino Mountains, with some sprinkles potentially reaching Palm Springs by Sunday morning. However, the rain will be very sporadic and not widespread. This will likely be a weakening atmospheric river, which means while there may be some rain, it will be brief and light, with little to no accumulation expected. There is another chance for rain on Tuesday, so we’ll continue to keep an eye on that, but for now, Saturday evening and Sunday morning seem to be the peak of any potential wet weather. Thanksgiving Forecast Looking ahead to Thanksgiving, the weather looks pleasant with daytime highs in the 70s. The forecast calls for 57°F at 8 a.m., with temperatures reaching the low 70s by noon and dipping to 65°F by the afternoon. It will be a perfect day to shop for your turkey and get the last-minute ingredients you need for your Thanksgiving feast. Weekend Outlook The weekend will see temperatures in the high 70s, with a slight cool-down to more average conditions expected by Monday. It's a great weekend to enjoy outdoor activities before the cooler weather truly sets in next week. Stay tuned for more weather updates as we approach the holiday season, and have a wonderful weekend!
