Palm Springs International Airport Engages Community in Master Plan Development

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is involving Coachella Valley residents in shaping its future. On Thursday, PSP hosted a public meeting to present its master plan, inviting feedback on proposed expansions and improvements. The plan, required every 20 years by the FAA, aims to address projected growth and enhance safety while preserving the airport’s historic character. "We’re looking at modernization and expanding gates but want to ensure we maintain the unique essence of Palm Springs," said Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein. Proposals include improvements to baggage claim, a car rental center, seven additional gates, and the introduction of international services. Residents shared enthusiasm for the updates but emphasized the need for responsible development. "We’re excited about the benefits for the community but want it done in a way that works for us," said attendee Matthew Lancelotti. Sustainability, noise, traffic, and community impacts remain top priorities. Officials noted the airport is preparing to accommodate nearly 6 million passengers over the next 20 years. "This process will take time," said a PSP representative, "but our goal is to create an airport that reflects the community’s needs while preparing for future growth." Community meetings will continue as the plan evolves, ensuring residents play an active role in shaping the airport’s future.
