New Video Emerges of Festival of Lights Parade Crash; Officer and Two Others Hospitalized
New video circulating online provides a closer look at the motorcycle crash during Palm Springs’ Festival of Lights Parade on Saturday, which injured 12 people. Three remain hospitalized, including Officer Ken Miranda, whose motorcycle lost control and collided with spectators. Officer Miranda, who was performing a routine for the Palm Springs Police Department, suffered a severe hand injury. Video footage of the crash has sparked questions and rumors about the events leading up to the incident. Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills addressed the situation, announcing the temporary suspension of motorcycle operations within the department. "First thing is we're going to stand down on all the motors," said Mills. "We're going to tell the motors off the street until we can figure out what went wrong and why it went wrong and how we're going to fix it." The department is conducting multiple reviews, including an internal administrative investigation of policies, training, and equipment, as well as an internal affairs investigation to determine if any violations occurred. Chief Mills also announced plans to develop clear operational guidelines for future events. Witnesses reported seeing Miranda performing tricks, including wheelies, before the crash. Chief Mills confirmed this behavior was unauthorized and said, "We will have a strict prohibition on any lifting of the front wheel in these settings." Despite his own injuries, Miranda demonstrated care for others at the scene, ensuring the well-being of a child and their mother while en route to the hospital.
