FTC Reports Record Surge in Online Task Scams, Losses Exceed $220 Million in 2024

Financial losses from these scams have surpassed $220 million, with online task scams making up approximately 40% of all reported job scams. These scams often present themselves as easy, well-paying online tasks, such as interacting with social media posts or reviewing restaurants. Scammers promise commissions for completing simple tasks, but victims often receive no payment. In some cases, scammers ask for upfront deposits, which are never refunded.
