Top Golfers Return to La Quinta for The American Express at PGA West
The NBC Palm Springs Sports Desk with Tim O’Brien, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos The countdown has begun! The American Express golf tournament returns to PGA West in La Quinta, taking place January 16-19, 2025. This world-class event brings some of the top golfers, including World #1 Scottie Scheffler and #2 Xander Schauffele, to the Coachella Valley to kick off their 2025 season. Media Day at PGA West offered a preview of the excitement. Renovations to the stadium course were showcased, and attendees, including media members, enjoyed a day filled with good food and laughs. Last year’s amateur champion, Nick Dunlap, spoke about how the tournament transformed his life and career after his historic win as the first amateur victor in 33 years. Organizers highlighted the event's strong ties to the local community. Patrick McCabe, a leader in the tournament’s operations, emphasized the importance of small businesses and volunteer efforts: "It takes an army, it takes a village, and we’re just thankful to come along for the ride." In addition to world-class golf, fans can enjoy local flavors like TKB sandwiches from Indio and Sumo Dogs at the course. The American Express, which has been a fixture in the Coachella Valley since 2020, will run through 2028 under its current sponsorship. The event will take place across three iconic courses: the Stadium Course, the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West, and La Quinta Country Club. Don’t miss the action!
