CHP Launches Maximum Enforcement Period for Holiday Driving Safety
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is stepping up efforts to keep roads safe this holiday season with its annual Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP). The initiative, designed to reduce dangerous driving and prevent accidents, will run for 30 hours starting Tuesday at 6 p.m. and ending Wednesday night. During the MEP, all available CHP officers will be deployed across California’s highways and local roads. The campaign focuses on catching drivers engaging in risky behaviors such as speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee emphasized the importance of the program, stating, "This is a time to celebrate, but safety must come first. Our officers will be out in full force to ensure everyone gets to their destinations safely." The holiday season sees increased travel, often accompanied by higher rates of accidents and traffic violations. The CHP urges motorists to drive responsibly, wear seat belts, and report any dangerous driving they observe by calling 911. As the holidays approach, the CHP reminds everyone that road safety is a shared responsibility. By following the rules of the road, Californians can help make this festive season both joyful and safe.
