Holiday Travel Rush Hits Logan Airport as Passengers Head Home for Christmas
As Christmas approaches, Logan Airport in Boston is abuzz with holiday travelers heading to destinations near and far. On Sunday, TSA anticipated screening nearly 50,000 passengers, signaling a busy, though not record-breaking, day for the airport. Among the travelers was Kieran Porter, a freshman at UMass Boston, who faced challenges earlier in the week due to severe weather. "My Friday flight was canceled because of the snow," she shared. Determined to spend Christmas with her family in Ohio, she secured an early morning rescheduled flight. Warm-weather destinations also drew many passengers eager to escape New England’s frigid air. One traveler, en route to the Bahamas for a family cruise, expressed excitement: "It’s freezing here, so I’m happy to be heading somewhere warm." Cancellations at Logan on Sunday were limited to nine flights, a vast improvement from Friday's disruptions. TSA advised passengers to arrive two hours early for domestic flights and to pack smartly, suggesting gift bags instead of wrapping paper and checking liquids or spreadable foods. Solid foods, however, remain carry-on friendly. AAA reports record holiday travel nationwide, with many families prioritizing experiences and reunions. "My family is my rock," said one traveler. "I’m excited to spend time with them after a long time apart due to school." Despite the hustle, holiday travelers are embracing the journey to celebrate with loved ones.
