Firebirds Struggle Against Ontario Reign; Desert Holiday Classic Returns

Firebirds Look to Rebound, Desert Holiday Classic Brings Hoop Excitement
Firebirds Update:
It was a tough weekend for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, dropping both games in a home-and-home series against the Ontario Reign. Special teams continue to be a challenge, with frequent penalties disrupting rhythm. Head coach Derek Laxdal acknowledged injuries but stressed the need for results, stating, “You can’t win without 5-on-5 goals and a contributing power play.”

The Firebirds aim to bounce back on December 26 in Bakersfield before hosting their next home game on December 30 for Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to toss onto the ice after the team’s first goal, with all donations going to local charities. Tickets are available at CVFirebirds.com.

Desert Holiday Classic:
High school basketball takes center stage as the 24th annual Desert Holiday Classic tips off December 26. Over 100 teams will compete at venues like Rancho Mirage High and Palm Springs High. The event promises thrilling games, slam dunk contests, and three-point shootouts. The tournament has a history of showcasing future NBA stars, including Lamelo and Lonzo Ball.
