Bald Eagle Officially Declared National Symbol of Strength and Freedom
For over 250 years, the bald eagle has been a powerful representation of American values, gracing everything from currency to military insignias. On Tuesday, the iconic bird’s status was solidified as President Joe Biden signed a bill officially recognizing the bald eagle as the national symbol of the United States.
The legislation, introduced to the Senate floor in July, received unanimous support this month before heading to the President's desk. The bird of prey, renowned for its strength, freedom, and resilience, has been celebrated as an emblem of the nation's spirit since its selection for the Great Seal in 1782.
President Biden’s signing ceremony underscored the bald eagle’s enduring significance. "This majestic bird represents the heart of America—our resilience, our freedom, and our unwavering strength," the President remarked.
Despite its longstanding presence in American imagery, many were surprised to learn that the bald eagle had never been officially declared as the national bird. Its symbolic role has been so deeply ingrained in U.S. history that many assumed it already held formal recognition.
Public reactions ranged from shock to amusement. "I thought this was common knowledge," said one local resident. "But it’s nice to have it finally set in stone."
With this new designation, the bald eagle soars to new heights as a symbol of the country’s heritage and ideals. The official recognition serves as a reminder of the bird’s role in inspiring Americans for generations.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike.
