Palm Springs Weather: Warm Temperatures Continue with Brief Cloud Cover Clearing

Palm Springs continues to experience warmer-than-normal temperatures as 2024 draws to a close. After Thursday morning's cloud cover, which initially slowed temperature rises, the area is expected to clear for afternoon sunshine with temperatures ranging from 71 to 75 degrees, approximately 5 degrees above seasonal norms.
Local variations in temperature show Palm Springs reaching 73 degrees, Indio at 72, Cabazon at 69, and Joshua Tree eventually warming to 63 degrees under clearing skies. Overnight temperatures will settle into the 40s and 50s throughout the valley.
Friday's forecast includes increased sunshine with occasional wispy, high-level clouds. While winds remain calm today, tomorrow will bring an onshore flow with sustained winds reaching 20 mph in the San Gorgonio Pass. Despite a northern front bringing slightly higher moisture levels, the weekend air mass remains relatively dry.
Looking ahead to the New Year, a strengthening high-pressure ridge over the Southwest will push temperatures even higher. Sunday's forecast shows temperatures ranging from 75 to 79 degrees, well above the seasonal upper 60s norm. The warming trend continues into early 2025, with some areas potentially reaching the 80s by January 1-2. Notably, the next seven days show no precipitation in the forecast for Southern California.
