Coachella Valley Firebirds Secure 4-3 Victory; Sports World Mourns Greg Gumbel's Passing

The Coachella Valley Firebirds edged the Bakersfield Condors with a 4-3 victory, thanks to a decisive power-play goal by defenseman Nikolas Brouillard. Both Ben Meyers and Nikolas Brouillard earned stars of the game honors. The Firebirds were without defenseman Gustav Olofsson and goalie Alexander True, both recalled to the Seattle Kraken earlier in the day. In their absence, the team called up Charlie Wright, Jake McLaughlin, and goaltender Jack LaFontaine from the Kansas City Mavericks. The Firebirds are set to host the Ontario Reign for Teddy Bear Toss Night, encouraging fans to bring teddy bears to be thrown onto the ice after the team's first goal. The current record, held by the Hershey Bears, stands at 74,599 bears.

Dunlap made history as the first amateur in 33 years to win a PGA Tour event and is preparing to defend his title next month when the tournament returns to PGA West from January 16th to 19th.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is expected to miss the next three to four weeks following surgery for a hand injury. Scheffler sustained a puncture wound on the palm of his right hand from broken glass while preparing Christmas dinner. As a result, he will miss the season-opening tournament but is anticipated to return for The American Express in La Quinta next month.
