Flu season in the United States is ramping up, with the CDC reporting a sharp 12% rise in positive flu tests for the week ending December 21, compared to the previous week. More than 12,000 people have already been hospitalized with the virus, signaling a notable surge in cases. While flu activity generally begins to pick up around Halloween and peaks in February, this year's season started later than usual, with a delayed onset of widespread cases.

Data from the CDC shows that flu activity is currently most intense in Louisiana and Oregon, as well as along the southern and western regions of the country. As the flu continues to spread, there are concerns about vaccination rates. The CDC reports that fewer children have received their flu shots this year compared to previous years, while adult vaccination rates remain similar to those from the same period last year.

Health officials are urging people, particularly parents of young children, to get vaccinated as the flu season continues to intensify. With the rise in cases and hospitalizations, experts stress the importance of taking precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, including vaccination, hand hygiene, and staying home when feeling ill.
