Heavy Metals In Baby Food Soon To Be Trackable By Parents
Parents Here In California Will Soon Be Able To Find Out If -- And How Much -- Heavy Metals Are In The Food They Give Their Babies.
A New State Law Requires Baby Food Manufacturers To Test Samples Of Their Infant And Toddler Food Monthly For Levels Of Arsenic, Cadmeum, Lead And Mercury.
Those Test Results Must Then Be Posted On The Company's Website.
Consumers Can Then View Those Results By Simply Scanning A QR code On The Food's Label.
The Law Applies To All Baby Food Manufactured On Or After January First -- And Only To Food Sold In California.
But -- Other Manufacturers -- Including Gerber And Beechnut -- Also Say They Plan On Rolling Out QR Codes On Their Products Nationwide.
Health Experts Say Even Low Exposure To These Metals Can Cause Damage To A Child's Developing Brain.
