Washington Bids Final Farewell to President Jimmy Carter
The nation said its final goodbyes to President Jimmy Carter today, as Washington D.C. hosted a state funeral that brought together dignitaries, family, and countless citizens to honor the life of the 39th president, who passed away on December 29th at the age of 100.
A grand ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral marked the culmination of several days of memorial services, including public visitation at the Capitol Rotunda. Thousands of mourners lined up for hours in freezing temperatures to pay their respects to a man who profoundly impacted the world and U.S. politics. Among them were everyday citizens, political leaders, and celebrities, all reflecting on Carter's legacy of selflessness, peace efforts, and tireless work for humanity.
President Joe Biden, a longtime friend and admirer of Carter, delivered an emotional eulogy, recalling their decades-long bond and praising Carter's integrity, courage, and commitment to doing what was right, even in the face of political challenges. In a statement, Biden reflected on the profound lessons of humility and service that Carter imparted to the nation.
