Wildfires Rage Across L.A. County, Death Toll Climbs to Six as Thousands Evacuate
The relentless wildfires raging across Los Angeles County tonight have claimed another life, pushing the total death toll to six. The latest fatality was reported from the Palisades Fire, which is among five major fires currently burning in the region. The other five deaths were attributed to the Eaton Fire, which continues to rage through Altadena, an area that has seen significant destruction.
As flames continue to spread, over 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate the hardest-hit areas. The Palisades Fire alone has scorched more than 17,000 acres and is threatening numerous homes and structures. CAL FIRE has reported that the fire is still at 0% containment, and efforts to control the blaze have been complicated by shifting winds and dry conditions.
In addition to the Palisades and Eaton Fires, the newly ignited Sunset Fire, which started last night, has already grown to more than 40 acres. This fire is now threatening iconic landmarks, further heightening the urgency of evacuation orders.
