Palm Springs Begins Major Road Rehabilitation Project on Highway 111, Closure on North Indian Canyon Drive
Starting today, Caltrans, in collaboration with the City of Palm Springs, has launched an eight-mile rehabilitation project along Highway 111. The project, funded by State Senate Bill 1, will improve safety, accessibility, and the longevity of this vital roadway.
Work on the project will involve repaving sections of Highway 111, constructing 11 new Sunline Transportation bus pads, and upgrading sidewalks and curb ramps. Crews will be working on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first phase of construction began today, focusing on the outside lanes of eastbound Palm Canyon Drive between Broadmoor Drive and Golf Club Drive.
"This project is designed to not only enhance the safety of drivers but also improve pedestrian access, and expand public transportation infrastructure," said a representative from Caltrans. The improvements are expected to benefit the community for years to come, with the project slated to continue through late 2025.
In addition to the work on Highway 111, there will be a temporary road closure on North Indian Canyon Drive from Sunrise Parkway to Garnett Avenue. The closure will begin at midnight on January 14th and last until noon on January 15th to facilitate construction related to the Indian Canyon Bridge project. This phase of the project involves installing new access and K-rail barriers, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays. Emergency vehicles will still have access during the closure, with flagmen directing traffic.
As the rehabilitation project continues, both residents and visitors are urged to stay informed about ongoing closures and detours in the area to ensure smooth travel through Palm Springs.
