Day One Recap: American Express Golf Tournament at PGA West

Caitlyn Kelly reports live from PGA West in La Quinta, where day one of the American Express Golf Tournament has just wrapped up. She’s joined by Judd Spicer, who, in addition to being a Firebirds insider, is here representing Desert Willow Golf Resort.

Judd shared valuable insights into the changes made to the PGA Stadium course. These changes include full renovations to all 18 greens and greenside bunkers, along with adjustments to bunker locations on five holes. As a result, the course is expected to be more challenging than ever, with the greens harder and larger, offering the PGA Tour more diverse pin placements. Judd noted that today, the course's stroke average jumped from last year’s 69 to over 72, indicating that the course is playing much tougher this time around.

As for the leaderboard, JT Poston is leading after day one with a strong score of 10 under par. Justin Lower trails closely at 9 under.

The tournament continues tomorrow with more action at PGA West. Fans are sure to be on the edge of their seats as the competition heats up. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling event!
