Weekend Weather Update: Calm Conditions Today, Fire Weather Watch Next Week

Happy Friday, everyone! Welcome back to the show. Right now, we're getting a live look at the Walter Clark High 11 Cam in Rancho Mirage, where traffic is pretty busy on the 111. It’s a great time to visit one of the amazing restaurants in the area this weekend, as temperatures are going to be beautiful, with calm winds. Today’s high reached around 70 degrees, which is just about average for us, with the normal high being 71. We didn’t break any records today, with the highest being 89 degrees, but that's okay.

As we move into tonight, temperatures are cooling down, with 47 degrees up in Yucca Valley, 57 in Desert Hot Springs, and 64 in Palm Springs. On the southeast end, it will be cooler, dipping to 39 degrees in Indio, while it’s 30 in Joshua Tree and a chilly 20 degrees in Big Bear.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the onshore flow will continue, bringing calm conditions through Saturday and Sunday. Although we're not expecting significant rain, the atmosphere is slightly more moist, which is a relief given the recent fire weather concerns to the west. The relative humidity for the weekend will stay around 20-25%.

Next week, however, the weather will shift. A high-pressure system is expected to move east over the Great Basin, tightening the pressure gradient and causing winds to pick up. From Monday through Tuesday, we’ll see winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour, especially in areas near Los Angeles, Ventura County, the Inland Empire, and San Bernardino. With humidity dropping to single digits, there will be a heightened risk of fire weather.

The Comfort Air seven-day forecast shows temperatures in the 70s through the weekend, with a slight cooldown in the 60s expected next week as the low-pressure system moves in. Be sure to plan accordingly for Monday and Tuesday, especially if you’ll be outdoors or near areas with high winds. Stay safe, and enjoy the weekend!
