CDC Urges Accelerated Testing for Human Bird Flu Cases Amid Escalating Outbreak
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging healthcare facilities to expedite testing for human cases of bird flu, particularly the H5N1 strain, as the virus sees a marked increase in poultry and dairy cow populations. The new protocol advises that tests for influenza A, which includes the H5N1 virus, be performed within 24 hours of a patient's admission. This move is aimed at quickly identifying potential human infections and enabling prompt interventions to limit the spread of the virus.
As the outbreak of bird flu intensifies, particularly in poultry and dairy farming regions, the CDC’s focus on faster detection underscores the growing concern over potential human cases, though transmission to humans remains relatively rare.
