New Art Installation at Sunnylands
A new art installation at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage is turning heads and sparking conversations with its exploration of life, death, and sustainability in the desert landscape. The "Living Pyramid," created by Desert X and designed by the 94-year-old artist Agnes Dennis, is a stunning fusion of art and agriculture. The piece features rows of plants arranged to form a pyramid that points toward the desert sky, symbolizing the cyclical nature of life. As the plants grow, bloom, and eventually wither away, the installation represents the passage of time and the interconnectedness of life and death in the natural world.
The piece is more than just a visual spectacle—it's a dynamic, living artwork that changes with the seasons. Mickalene Gallagher, a supporter of the exhibition, expressed her admiration for how the piece evolves, providing a tangible link between art and nature. Desert X's art director, Neville Wakefield, noted how Dennis’s work redefines land art, making it not only a commentary on the environment but also a reflection of the sustainability and harmony between humanity and nature.
The "Living Pyramid" will remain at Sunnylands throughout the season and is free for visitors to explore, offering a unique opportunity to experience art that truly comes to life.
