Two Dead, One in Critical Condition After Murder-Suicide in Cathedral City
CATHEDRAL CITY (CNS) - A 30-year-old suspect shot and killed a man,
critically wounded a woman in Cathedral City, and then died by suicide today,
authorities said.
Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 69200 block of Nilda
Drive shortly after 3:45 a.m., according to a statement from the Cathedral City
Police Department.
Officers discovered both 19-year-old victims in a bedroom with gunshot
wounds, according to the department.
The man died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by Cathedral
City Fire personnel, and the woman was transported to a local hospital in
critical but stable condition, authorities said.
Detectives later learned the suspected gunman, a Cathedral City man,
fled the scene and was found dead in San Bernardino County from a self-
inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
Investigators believe the suspect, who was known to the male victim,
entered the bedroom, shot the two, and then drove to an area in San Bernardino
County, where he took his own life, according to police.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the victims or the
suspect, and the motive for the shooting remained under investigation.
