Los Angeles Philharmonic to Perform Beethoven, Tchaikovsky in Palm Desert
Presented by the Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform at the McCallum Theatre on Monday night.
Philippe Jordan will conduct the performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, op. 73, also known as the ``Emperor'' Concerto, with the assistance of Yefim Bronfman on piano.
After that, Jordan will present Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, op. 74, commonly referred to as the ``Pathétique'' Symphony -- Tchaikovsky himself considered it his greatest work.
Jordan, who has held conducting and music directing positions in cities such as Paris, Berlin and Vienna, has conducted the LA Phil between Thursday and Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic itself had to cancel all of its scheduled performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall between Jan. 9-14, saying that the recent wildfires had impacted its musicians and staff.
``Our hearts are with all the members of our community affected by the fires, and we are grateful for the tireless work of firefighters and first responders during this emergency,'' the orchestra said in a statement.
The show is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 21.
