A fast-moving brush fire in the northern part of Los Angeles County has led to evacuations near Lake Hughes Road, Castaic. The Hughes Fire, which ignited around 10:30 a.m. local time, has rapidly spread, now estimated to cover 3,400 acres, according to the latest update from Cal-Fire.
The fire has cast a thick, dark cloud of smoke over the dry hillsides, with firefighting planes seen dropping retardant in an effort to prevent further spread. Local authorities have ordered evacuations in the area near Lake Hughes Road, just off the Five Freeway.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for parts of Los Angeles County, indicating an elevated risk of wildfire due to extreme conditions.
