Children's Discovery Museum Hosts Free Yoga Session for Families Escaping LA Wildfires

In response to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert in Rancho Mirage offered a free parent-and-child yoga session to families who had traveled to the area for refuge. The class, hosted by Liz Cortez of Heart and Soul Yoga, aimed to provide a calming and fun experience for both parents and children, offering a moment of peace during a stressful time.

Liz Cortez, who has a studio in Rancho Mirage, shared that the event was designed to bring a sense of lightness and hope to those affected by the fires. "We wanted to offer something fun for everyone to do together, to help families reconnect and soothe their spirits," she said.

One participant shared how the class felt like a comforting embrace, noting that it made them feel "soothed" and appreciated the museum’s awareness of their situation. The event proved to be a meaningful way for the community to support those displaced, and the museum plans to continue offering similar programs. These yoga sessions help kids and parents connect with their breath, body, and each other, and the hope is to make such offerings a regular part of the museum’s outreach.
