Firefighters Gaining Ground on Hughes Fire in Northern LA County

A fast-moving wildfire, known as the Hughes fire, ignited yesterday morning around 11 a.m. in a remote area east of Lake Castaic, prompting thousands of evacuations in northern Los Angeles County. The fire has scorched approximately 10,000 acres, and as of tonight, Cal Fire reports it is 24% contained. L.A. County Fire Chief Anthony Maroney expressed confidence that the fire crews are gaining the upper hand, but cautioned that the fire remains difficult to fully contain.

While authorities continue to monitor the situation, no injuries or structural damage have been reported. Firefighters are working in challenging conditions as they battle the blaze, which is consuming dry vegetation in the rugged terrain of the area. Residents in the evacuation zones have been urged to stay alert for any further updates as crews continue to fight the fire.

In addition to the Hughes fire, firefighters have also been dealing with a separate brush fire in the northwest part of Los Angeles. The Sepulveda fire broke out near the 405 Freeway and Sepulveda Boulevard, close to the upscale Bel Air neighborhood. Fortunately, this fire has been contained to just 40 acres, with no damage to homes or injuries reported.

Authorities say crews are still on the scene of both fires, working diligently to ensure that no further flare-ups occur. While the forward progress of the Sepulveda fire has been stopped, firefighters are continuing their efforts to clear any hot spots that may pose a risk.

As Southern California continues to face fire threats amid dry conditions, local authorities and fire departments are on high alert, working to protect both lives and property from the ongoing danger.
