Trump’s "One Flag Policy" Ends Pride and Other Flag Displays at Embassies and government buildings
In a new directive from President Donald Trump, the U.S. government has established the "One Flag Policy," which mandates that only the U.S. flag—along with two military-related flags—be flown at U.S. embassies and other diplomatic outposts around the world. The policy, which came into effect on Monday, prohibits flags like Black Lives Matter or LGBT pride flags from being displayed at any U.S. government buildings.
The policy aims to ensure that only the American flag, symbolizing justice, liberty, and democracy, is visible at U.S. government locations, both domestically and internationally. The directive emphasizes the unity of Americans under these core principles and reflects Trump's ongoing push to minimize "wokeness" within federal institutions.
The new rule also provides exceptions for the flags of wrongful detainees and the POW/MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing in Action) as a way to honor those who served in military combat. Any violations of the policy, including unauthorized flag displays, may lead to severe penalties, including termination or reassignment of affected employees.
In a statement, the U.S. government affirmed that the American flag alone should be flown at its diplomatic and governmental facilities to maintain a sense of pride and respect, reinforcing its status as a universal symbol of American ideals.
