Governor Newsom Launches California Rises Initiative: A Statewide Commitment to Resilience
Today, Governor Gavin Newsom officially launched California Rises, a statewide recovery initiative aimed at supporting communities impacted by the devastating 2018 Camp Fire and other recent wildfires. In collaboration with the California Fire Foundation, California Rises is a renewed effort to empower communities through volunteerism, collective action, and community-driven solutions, especially in the wake of Southern California’s recent fire tragedies.
“California’s resilience is defined by its people,” Governor Newsom stated. “Through California Rises, we’re tapping into our state’s extraordinary ability to unite in times of need. Whether it’s donating, volunteering, or simply showing kindness, everyone has a role to play in this recovery.”
The California Rises initiative is dedicated to offering support to both communities affected by wildfires and the brave firefighters and first responders who continue to work tirelessly on the frontlines. To date, nearly 14 million Californians across 24 counties have received relief and recovery support through grants facilitated by California Rises.
How Californians Can Support California Rises:
Give Resources: Make donations that will directly benefit the California Fire Foundation and impacted communities.
Give Time: Volunteer opportunities are available through California Love and California Strong to help with recovery efforts.
Give Gratitude: Express appreciation for first responders and volunteers who continue to dedicate themselves to the cause.
Give Love: Support neighbors, local businesses, and friends in their recovery journeys.
“This collaboration represents our unified commitment to building stronger, safer communities,” said Brian K. Rice, Chair of the California Fire Foundation. “We are grateful for Governor Newsom and his continued partnership to support firefighters and the communities they protect.”
First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom also expressed the importance of collective efforts. “California Rises shows the power of coming together to rebuild and recover,” she said. “This initiative is a testament to our shared resilience and determination to ensure every community affected by these devastating fires has the resources and support they need to thrive again. This is California Love in action, and together, we are California Strong.”
