Hikers Attacked by Suspected Cartel Members in Jucumba Wilderness Near U.S.-Mexico Border
On Wednesday, two hikers were attacked by suspected Mexican cartel members in the Jucumba Wilderness, located near the U.S.-Mexico border. The two victims, a U.S. citizen and a Canadian citizen, were approached by two armed men who ordered them to move towards the suspects.
When one of the hikers refused to follow the command, the assailant shot him in the leg. Both hikers were then robbed of their belongings before the attackers retreated back into Mexico.
U.S. Border Patrol agents responded rapidly to the scene, quickly stabilizing the injured hiker and transporting him to a hospital for treatment. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack and the suspects’ escape into Mexico.
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by cartel activity near the U.S.-Mexico border and the risks to hikers and others in the area.
