Palm Springs Airport Expansion Plan Approved by City Council
The Palm Springs City Council has unanimously approved the Airport Master Plan, a bold redevelopment project for Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) designed to enhance the travel experience and reflect the values of the Coachella Valley community.
Key components of the plan include new gates, an expanded baggage claim area, and a hybrid Rental Car Center. The proposed structure will feature a single-story building with two underground levels, located north of the terminal near baggage claim. A second rental car facility near Kirk Douglas Way may be added based on demand.
“This is a significant step forward,” said PSP Executive Director Harry Barrett Jr. “The approval ensures PSP remains a source of pride for travelers and our community, fostering thoughtful, community-focused growth.”
While the Master Plan outlines the size, scale, and location of future developments, design and funding details remain under review. Officials have committed to incorporating public input throughout the process.
Before breaking ground, the airport must complete an environmental analysis under the California Environmental Quality Act, which is expected to conclude in 2026. Construction on the first phase could begin within the next three to four years, with completion anticipated by the early 2030s.
