Celebrate Black History Month with Events Across the Valley, Starting This Saturday
This Saturday marks the beginning of Black History Month, and both Palm Springs and Indio are kicking off the celebrations with a variety of free, educational, and fun events for the entire community. The city of Palm Springs is set to begin its month-long series on February 1st with a flag-raising ceremony to honor Black History Month. Following this, the 15th Annual Black History Awards Gala will take place, along with a special speaking event by actress Jennifer Lewis, known for her advocacy and contributions to the arts.
Throughout the month, Palm Springs will also host a daddy-daughter dance, a Black History Parade, and a basketball tournament, all leading up to the grand closing celebration on February 27th at the Palm Springs Art Museum.
Meanwhile, in Indio, residents are invited to join in the celebrations on Saturday, February 8th. Downtown Indio will be buzzing with activities, culture, and entertainment from noon to 5 p.m. The event will include inspiring guest speakers, resource booths, and a panel discussion covering important topics. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the public to come together, celebrate, and learn, all free of charge.
These events offer the perfect chance for the community to celebrate Black History Month, honor the achievements of African Americans, and enjoy a variety of cultural experiences.
