Route 66 Update: No Closure from Ludlow to Amboy, 100th Anniversary Preparations Underway

There has been confusion surrounding the status of Route 66, but Roggin Reporter Ken Morocco has set the record straight. Initially, reports indicated that part of the iconic route was closed, but Ken confirms that the section from Ludlow to Amboy is open for business with no slowdowns, making it a great route for travelers heading to Amboy Crater or continuing the leg to the Barstow Military Base.

The only closure affecting Route 66 is the stretch from Kell Baker Road east to Essex, California, where bridge replacements are currently underway. Despite this, Ken emphasizes that most of the road remains accessible, providing good news for tourists planning to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in 2026.

For those interested in staying along the historic route, Ken shares details about a local hotel owned by Alberto Cura’s family. After significant renovations, the hotel plans to open its 50s-style cabins by 2026. As tourists, especially from Europe, flock to Route 66 to relive Americana, this investment will offer a nostalgic experience. Additionally, a car show will be held at Roy's in Amboy on March 1st, attracting more Route 66 fans.
