Mascots Compete in a Fun-Filled Fashion Show at AHL All-Star Weekend
The AHL All-Star Weekend isn’t just about the on-ice action; mascots are also getting in on the fun with their own competition — a fashion show that has turned out to be a fan favorite. Olivia Sandusky reports live from the Coachella Valley, where the mascot fashion show has just wrapped up, and let’s just say, it exceeded everyone’s expectations.
When Olivia arrived at the event, she admits she didn’t quite know what to expect from a hockey mascot fashion show, but the experience certainly delivered. The event included an array of mascots from across the league, each sporting their most fashionable looks, accompanied by amusing trivia that had the crowd laughing. Gino Lamont, the emcee of the event, had a blast guiding the show and sharing some of the quirky facts the mascots revealed, like the bald eagle's fondness for salmon and spaghetti and “Frenzy’s” (San Jose Barracuda’s mascot) love of Finding Nemo.
Despite the fun atmosphere, not all mascots were met with unanimous cheers. Coco, the Hershey Bears mascot, took some playful boos from the crowd after revealing that his favorite song was Two by Blur — a nod to the rivalry between the Firebirds and the Hershey Bears after their two playoff meetings. Coco also drew attention for needing his own security team, thanks to the intense rivalry between his team and the Firebirds.
The energy around the arena was electric, with families and young fans out in full support. Olivia spoke with a few young girls at the Fan Zone, including Jayla, Jenna, and Josira, who were enjoying the activities and showing off their skills on the ice. Of course, these young fans were all proudly wearing their Firebirds jerseys and gearing up for the game later in the evening. They also shared who their favorite players were, with John Hayden and Max McCormick taking the top spots.
As the All-Star Game approaches, fans are ready for more action. The mascot fashion show may have been just a warm-up, but it definitely added to the excitement. And with more events planned throughout the weekend, there’s no doubt that AHL All-Star Weekend in Coachella Valley is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration.
