Riverside County Appoints Mary Martin as New Director of Animal Services Department

In a significant move to strengthen its Department of Animal Services, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors has appointed Mary Martin as the new director of the department. Martin steps into the role after a vacancy that has lasted since September 2024. As the department’s leader, she will manage a $34 million budget and oversee the operation of four municipal animal shelters, which provide essential services to the community. The department plays a critical role in Riverside County, responding to over 40,000 calls for field services annually, including animal rescues, field enforcement, and animal control. The position’s importance has been amplified in recent months due to the growing challenges faced by local animal services in caring for the area’s animals and meeting community needs.

Martin brings with her a wealth of experience in the field, having most recently served as the Assistant Director of Dallas Animal Services. Her extensive background includes leadership roles at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, where she earned a reputation for implementing effective programs and improving animal welfare standards. With her leadership and expertise, Martin is expected to make a significant impact in Riverside County, ensuring that its animal services department continues to thrive and serve the community effectively.
